Sculpture Symposium

Manama - Bahrain

In Al Muharraq’s Souk Al Baraha, the Bahrain International Sculpture Symposium has long been less an event than a civic gesture — inviting sculptors from Bahrain and beyond to shape new landmarks in public view. Past editions have gathered artists from across the region and Europe, producing large-scale works that remain in the urban fabric, anchoring contemporary Bahrain to a living tradition of craft and cultural exchange.

Behind the Creations

What makes the symposium special is the way it turns the city into a “living studio.” The work doesn’t hide behind museum walls; it happens outdoors, in daylight, in conversation with passersby. You see the raw block before you see the form, hear the chisels before you meet the finished piece. Artists trade techniques, pauses, and stubborn revisions as the material slowly gives up its secret. By the time each sculpture leaves the workshop site and enters the streets, it carries not just design, but the memory of its making — a shared, witnessed becoming.
